Adventure: Autonomy in Santa Maria 80 km in 5 days

What we propose is a complete crossing of the island, passing through its most iconic points. It is an autonomous guided trip for 5 days, 4 nights at a leisurely pace with some challenging points.

The overnight shelters are old haylofts rebuilt using traditional methods and ecological materials. As ecological shelters, energy is renewable and water is used. For this reason, you should carry ecological soap or gel with you.

We propose the half-board option with an excellent dinner of homemade food, based on local ingredients. Every day meals are prepared and delivered before our arrival in a traditional pot. Continental style breakfast. Wine is available in the houses at an additional cost, teas and coffee included.

Program:

Sunday, April 21st:

Arrival at Santa Maria Island.

Transport to the Youth Hostel in the center of Vila do Porto and next to the beginning of the trail.

Free afternoon to visit Vila do Porto.

Group dinner in a typical bar to socialize and presentation of the activity.

Overnight at the Youth Hostel in shared dormitories.

(Possibility to leave a suitcase at the Pousada).

From Monday, April 22nd to Friday, April 26th:

Crossing the island independently.

5 stages, total of 80 km.

4 nights accommodation in ecological shelters, with homemade breakfast and dinner - vegetarian option available.

Monday, April 22nd

Briefing with the owner of the refuge houses about the functioning and rules of the place.

Warm-up stage with a stop at Praia de Formosa, with its white sands.

Vila do Porto - Malbusca 10km.

Tuesday, April 23rd.

Malbusca - Lapa 13km.

Surprise visit.

Wednesday, April 24th

Lapa - North 18km.

Northeast coast with great views and some challenging spots.

Thursday, April 25th.

North - Baía do Raposo 20km.

We will enter the interior of the island and climb Pico Alto, the highest point on the island.

Friday, April 26th

Last stage of the crossing, northwest coast with different landscape.

Raposo Bay - Vila do Porto 22 km.

Return in the late afternoon/evening.

Option of an extra night at the Youth Hostel (not included).
